A Brief History of LOL Candles

  It’s hard to believe some days, but LOL Candles is almost sixteen years old!  A lot can happen in those years: children being born, people getting married, loved ones passing on and companies can be born and develop a long-standing clientele.  Many of you have been customers of ours for quite a long time.  We’ve swapped emails, stories and anecdotes.  You’ve allowed a part of us into your home.  For that, we are so grateful.  We’ve been asked a lot of questions over the years about how we got started doing this and who are the people behind LOL Candles.  So here we go:

  Back in 1997, we started making tarts as a hobby.  We loved being able to blend our own scents, pick our own colors and come up with clever names.  It was really fun to play “mad scientist.”  Before long, family and friends were going crazy for the products we were turning out, and we just couldn’t keep up with the demand—unless we decided to do this for real.  Soon we opened up our own Ebay store, and Laughing Out Loud Candles was officially born. 

  As word of mouth started to grow, Laughing Out Loud started to outgrow the Ebay storefront and we decided to launch the website.  Before long, we decided to expand beyond tarts and candles and added so many other items to our stock.  It’s mind-blowing for us to think that this “hobby” has now turned into our full-time job and family business.  It has become like one of our children, and like all children, raising them “right” has its ups and downs.  It can be a love/hate relationship: you’d never quit for the life of you, but there are days you just want to lock yourself in a room and hide.  And also like a child, this company has had its growing pains, moments of success and moments where it indeed needed a “time out.”  :o)

   Until 2007, we were lifelong New Jerseyans, but are now loving our lives in Pennsylvania. 2009 saw the opening of our first retail location in Dickson City, PA...It was a long time coming and to further our growth with the company we felt we should shorten the name to simply "LOL Candles". It felt right to do so, and we have been asked if the name means Love Our Lives? It almost seems to fit us as well, but it will always stand for Laughing Out Loud, and our commitment to our customers and our product will never waver!

  Sitting back and thinking about how this seemingly little hobby exploded into something huge, is amazing, and we realize how truly blessed we are to have found that one passionate thing we are perfectly suited for! We can’t imagine life without LOL.  Something we once did for ourselves, our friends and family has now allowed us to “meet” many, many people including mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, boyfriends, girlfriends, wives and even a husband or two—though I’m sure they’d never really admit it.  Again, thank you for helping us keep LOL Candles in business since 1997!
